Breakthrough to Higher Education

Thought about higher education, but would like to try it first? This 8-week introductory course is designed to build your confidence and understanding before starting a higher education course. This course can contribute towards one of our range of higher education qualifications and would suit students who have had an extended break from education. Come and join our course in a supportive and friendly environment with access to a variety of different teaching methods, taught by qualified and enthusiastic staff.

What will I study?
The course will cover the following areas:
• Writing and research skills
• Reflective practice
• Critical and analytical thinking
• Presentation and PowerPoint skills
• Review of skills
• Working with information
• Working with others

How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed through a report of between 2000-2500 words at the end of the course. The report will include an analysis of your current abilities, the higher education options available to you and an action plan. You will need to demonstrate that you have the ability to study at HE level through application of the appropriate skills. On successful completion you will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement.

Where will this course lead?
This course will build your confidence before undertaking an HE course, and introduces you to some of the skills required in higher learning.
