BSc (Hons) Advanced Nurse Practitioner

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner course has been designed to replace the BSc (Hons) Nurse Practitioner. This course has been developed with the belief that professional practice should be underpinned by professional education where individuals can fulfil their own needs, those of their employers and provide evidence to meet the needs of knowledge and skills framework (KSF).

Who is this course for?
This course is designed for nurses who wish to build on existing skills, integrate new skills into their practice and enhance their knowledge and competence for the development of a distinctive professional role providing high quality health care as an autonomous practitioner. Successful completion of this course makes you eligible for the RCN Advanced Nurse Practitioner Award.

What will I study?

Compulsory Units

• Vision for advanced practice
• Physical examination of the adults
• Advanced clinical skills portfolio
• Pathophysiology & applied therapeutics
• Applied health assessment
• Integration project

How will I be taught?
You will experience a variety of learning techniques to guide your development and continued learning such as lectures, seminars, workshops, debates, group work, self-direction study and case study analysis. You will also benefit from integrating the theory learned at university with your professional practice in your own practice setting.

NB. Physical examination of adults can be taken as a stand alone unit.

 

Entry Requirements

You should be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and have at least three years of post-qualifying experience.  Additionally you should be currently engaged in practice, normally working a minimum of 20 hours per week and be supported in the work place to undertake assessment and examining skills.
