CIM - Professional Diploma in Marketing

The Professional Diploma in Marketing is ideal for those in marketing management roles.  It builds on knowledge gained at Professional Certificate level and leads to Associated Membership of CIM.

Who is this course for?
The Professional Diploma in Marketing is for marketers concerned with managing the marketing process at an operational level, as well as those who are looking to build on knowledge gained at Certificate level with a future marketing management role in mind.

What will I study?
There are four units to this qualification:

Unit 1 - Marketing Planning Process
This unit covers evaluating the marketing planning process and its implementation, conducting the marketing audit to and assessment of the findings, the importance of segmentation, targeting and positioning to develop effective strategies and the importance of retaining customers through relationship marketing.

Unit 2 - Delivering Customer Value through Marketing
In this unit, students learn to develop and manage a brand and product portfolio, to develop and implement an effective channel management strategy which reflects stakeholders’ needs, to develop an effective and innovative communications strategy and plan that delivers through effective segmentation and targeting of internal and external markets, to utilise an innovative and effective integrated marketing mix and to determine customer requirements for product/service delivery to ensure that the proposition remains customer-focussed, efficient and effective.


Unit 3 - Managing Marketing
By completing this module, you will learn how to recommend the structure and management of a marketing function so that it delivers a competitive advantage, prepare plans to show how a team should be structured, selected, formed, managed and developed so that effective performance can be demonstrated against objectives, critically assess an organisation’s resource needs, prepare budgets and critically assess the ongoing financial situation.

Unit 4 - Project Management in Marketing
This unit covers identifying the organisation’s information needs, the scope of research projects and resource capability to underpin the development of justified business cases to support marketing projects, using project management tools and techniques, designing, developing and planning significant marketing programmes effectively, integrating a range of marketing tools and techniques to support the development and implementation of marketing projects and monitoring and measuring the outcomes of projects.

How will I be taught?
You will be taught through a blended-learning approach, including our virtual learning environment (Moodle), a mix of lectures, seminars, some weekend workshops and student-led discussion.  Tutorial support is available throughout the academic year.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through a blend of assignments and examinations.

Where could this course lead?
Successful completion of this course leads to Associated Membership of CIM and candidates can progress to the Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing or seek employment in a managerial Marketing role.

Entry Requirements

For marketers concerned with managing the marketing process at an operational level, as well as those who are looking to build on knowledge gained at Certificate level with a future marketing management role in mind.  Successful completion leads to Associated Membership of CIM, and candidates can progress to the Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing.
