Diploma in Teaching in the Life Long Learning Sector
DTLLS is a part-time course designed for those who are teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector in the ‘full teacher’ role as defined by Lifelong Learning UK.
Who is this course for?
The qualification is designed to support the development and acquisition of the skills, knowledge and practice required of the full teacher role.
This is defined by LLUK as someone who teaches:
• Using materials they have designed and evaluated
• Across a range of levels, subjects and learner types
• Across or contributing to a range of programmes of varying lengths
How is the course structured?
The course consists of two parts, each of which requires the completion of mandatory units and a 15-credit unit at the same level.
Part one is offered at Level 4 and consists of:
• Preparing to teach (you may already have this module)
• Planning and enabling learning
• Enabling Learning Assessment
• Theories and principles of Planning & Enabling Learning
• One level 4 optional module to the value of 15 credits
Part two is offered at Level 5 and consists of:
• Continuing personal and professional development
• Curriculum development of inclusive practitioners
• Wider professional practice
• One level 5 optional module to the value of 15 credits
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is through written assignments, and demonstration of skills in a teaching situation on at least four occasions in each year of the programme. There is one written and one practical assignment for each unit.
Where will the course lead?
Successful candidates on this course will be awarded a Level 5 qualification and will be entitled to apply for registration as a Full Teacher in the Learning & Skills Sector (QTLS) with the Lifelong Learning UK Sector Skills Council.
Entry Requirements
Level 2 (GCSE level) literacy and numeracy and IT skills. Access to a minimum of 150 hours of teaching over a range of courses and a variety of learners. Applications are welcomed from those currently underrepresented in the sector. In particular, we welcome applications from male and ethnic minority groups.
