FdA Creative Practices - Fine Art

This course aims to encourage and support you as you develop your own individual Fine Art practice and locate yourself and your work in the context of the area’s vibrant art community.

Who is this course for?
This course is particularly suitable for those who wish to pursue careers in contemporary fine art practice which may include installation, digital media and video or more traditional media of painting, print making and photography, or a combination of any of these mediums. There is no in-house style of working practice and students are encouraged to develop their own practice. The course can be studied full-time or part-time, allowing students to study alongside other commitments.

What will I study?
The FdA Creative Practice - Fine Art course is focused primarily on two-dimensional art forms, including painting, drawing, printmaking and photography.  Emphasis can be placed on a medium of your choice and students are encouraged to work in other media where appropriate, for example using video, installation and mixed media.  This course runs alongside the FdA Creative Practices (Media Practice), offering opportunities for cross-disciplinary debate and shared experiences for students on both courses.

Whilst having a new title, this course continues five years of Fine Art at UCY, ensuring that new students will benefit from the presence of existing students and their experiences.
FdA Creative Practices - Fine Art

How will I be taught?
The course includes specialist workshops in skills relevant to your area of study.  Creative Practices modules are delivered to mixed groups through a combination of lectures and reflective tutorials.  Students benefit from a high staff-student ratio, ensuring one-to-one, specialist guidance is also available.  In addition, you will be expected to continue your studies and studio practice in your own time.

How will I be assessed?
Modules are assessed through the generation of a portfolio of practical work, reflective learning journals produced during the course and two formal essays.

Where could this course lead?
Upon successful completion of the FdA in Creative Practices - Fine Art, students can progress to a Level 3 (BA Hons) top-up programme in their chosen specialism or seek employment in the Creative Industries.
