Foundation degree in Computing and Internet Technology
This programme is designed for those interested in pursuing a career in the diverse and rapidly changing area of the internet technologies, Web-based solutions and related fields. It provides the skills and understanding needed to develop the necessary technical and managerial competencies to plan, execute and support the introduction, development and expansion of computing and business solutions.

• Computer systems - PC hardware and operating systems
• Programming 1 - Structured programming with Java
• Database systems - Relational database design and implementation
• Systems 1 - Systems analysis and design
• Internet technologies - XML, AJAX and related technologies
• Web development - XHTML, CSS and related technologies
Level 5
• Network design - Wired and wireless Local Area Networking
• Programming 2 - Object-oriented programming with Java
• Systems 2 - Advanced systems analysis and design
• Internet application development - Web applications with database back-ends
• Work-based project – For a real client
• Human computer interaction – Interface design
How will I be taught?
You will be taught using a mixture of class-room lectures, seminars, tutorials and on-line learning using both the Internet and our own virtual-learning environment.
How will I be assessed?
By coursework and some examinations. There will normally be two assessments per unit, or one coursework and one exam depending upon the unit.
Where could this course lead?
The programme provides opportunities to gain industry-recognised qualifications, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate 1 (CCNA1) alongside your academic studies.
Entry Requirements
The course is for anyone who either has one A Level or equivalent, or has substantial experience and gains entry on interview.
