Foundation degree in Sports Development & Coaching
The focus of the course is on the knowledge, understanding, skills, capabilities and values that a student will need to gain if they are to be successful within the sport industry.
Who is this course for?
This course is for those who have a strong interest in using their sporting knowledge to coach others in a range of situations and to promote healthy active lifestyles. It is an advantage if you already have some experience of performing and/or leading within a sports specific environment.
What will I study?
Level 4 Units:
Sports Development, Sports Coaching, Event Management & Customer Care, Human Performance, Business Administration and Sports Physiology.
Level 5 Units:
Work Placement, Applied Sports Development, Training and Fitness,
Advanced Sports Coaching, Sports Psychology and Working with Specific Populations.
How will I be taught?
A wide variety of methods will be used to ensure you gain a full understanding of each topic area; these could include visits, guest speakers, videos, case studies and practical workshops. You will be expected to undertake work experience as part of this course and will need a full CRB disclosure.
How will I be assessed?
The course curriculum is designed to assess you using varied strategies, which may be practical projects, written reports, case studies, presentations and formal exams. The assessment will be continuous over the course and aims to develop your learning skills, practical abilities, personal qualities and subject knowledge. Assessments may be carried out individually or as part of a group; they will be presented either written or orally and may relate to hypothetical situations.
Where could this course lead?
This course will enhance your career prospects in the professional sport and leisure industry. It would also provide the opportunity for further study on the final year of an Honours degree.
Entry Requirements
You must have 80 UCAS points from one of the following: Two AVCE/GNVQ Advanced or A Levels or equivalent, or have relevant work experience and evidence of numeric and verbal/written skills. Applicants who have experience in sports performance & coaching/leadership will also be considered.
