MORE YEOVIL UNIVERSITY GRADUATES THAN EVER BEFORE
The
University Centre Yeovil (UCY) is celebrating its most successful year
ever, with over 300 students graduating this year from the variety of
university level courses on offer at the UCY. Over 900 students, staff,
dignitaries and guests attended the Ceremony which took place at
Westland Leisure Complex on Friday 19th October, 2007 at 3 pm.

Among
the students' accolades were 11 First Class Honours Degrees in subjects
including, English & History, Early Years Care & Education and
Clinical Nursing (Adult Branch) all of which are validated by
Bournemouth University.
Dr Richard Foyle, Head of UCY, said
"We
are extremely proud of all of the students' achievements this year,
especially our nursing students as Bournemouth University only awarded
8 First Class Honours Degrees to nursing students and 6 of those are
based at the UCY. This is a further testament to the excellent teaching
and student support available on Yeovil's doorstep."
The UCY Outstanding Achievement awards were won by four students this year: Jane Caines, a Dip HE Clinical Nursing Student from West Coker; Katy Del Gallow, a BSc (Hons) Clinical Nursing student from Blandford; Rebecca Hurral, a BA (Hons) English & History student from Stoke Sub-Hambdon and Leanne Middle, a Dip HE Operating Department Practice student from Taunton.
The
annual Business Plan Award (sponsored by Yeovil Natwest bank and local
solicitors Milsted Langdon) was awarded to Foundation degree Business
Students Natasha Whitcombe, Emma Peeke and Jonathan Osborne for their
juice and smoothie bar business 'Sweet 'N' InnoScent'. The trio
impressed the judges with the overall quality of their business plan
and the outstanding way they presented it to the judges.The
Honorary Fellowship was awarded to Educationalist Derek Esp, who has
long been a respected advisor and inspector for secondary education.
The Ted Wragg Award for Outstanding Trainees was awarded to PGCE
Student Alison Enticott from Stoke Sub Hambdon and the Harry Livingston
Award for Management Excellence was awarded to Jane Hobbs from
Mosterton.
Amongst the other awards were Honours Degrees in
subjects such as BA Business and Management, BSc Nurse Practitioner and
BA English and History. Foundation degrees were awarded in areas such
as Contemporary Theatre Practice, Early Years, Computing and Internet
Technology, Business and Management and CAD - Graphics and Packaging.
Many
other awards were also presented including the Postgraduate Certificate
of Education (Post Compulsory Education) awarded by The University of
Exeter, plus a wide range of Professional awards such as The Charted
Institute of Marketing (CIM) Professional Postgraduate Diploma,
Management Studies, Accountancy Technician Awards (AAT) and Chartered
Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS).
In his address, Derek Esp, Presenter of the Yeovil College Awards said;
"This
is a terrific demonstration of the quality and energy of what happens
here in Yeovil. I think the tutorial and support has been critical in
the success and achievements we've seen here today."
James Hampton, Principal of Yeovil College said;
"There
are many counties who don't have what we have here, and while we're
proud of our centre, we're most proud of you and your hard work. The
UCY is vital to the local area which can draw from a highly skilled and
creative workforce."
