ILEX - Higher Professional Diploma in Law
The ILEX Level 6 Higher Professional Diploma is the sessions stage of training to become a Legal Executive and is equivalent to honours degree level. This course replaces the outgoing ILEX Level 6 Higher Professional Diploma in Law.
What will I study?
The course requires you to study 6 units
1) One of the following combinations of practice and law units:
• Civil Litigation with Contract Law or the Law of Tort
• The Practice of Company and Partnership Law
• Conveyancing with Land Law
• Criminal Litigation and Criminal Law
• The Practice of Family Law and Family Law
• Probate Practice and the Law of Wills and Succession
2) And two of the following elective law units:
• Company and Partnership Law
• Contract Law
• Criminal Law
• Employment Law
• Equity and Trusts
• European Union Law
• Family Law • Immigration Law
• Land Law
• Landlord and Tenant Law
• Planning Law
• Public Law
• Law of Tort
• Law of Wills and Succession
3) And both Professional Skills units:
• Legal Research Skills
• Client Care Skills
Availability of units upon application
How will I be assessed?
The Law or Practice units are assessed by means of closed book examinations usually 3 hours in length. The Professional Skills units will be assessed by means of internally marked assignments which will be moderated externally.
Where could this course lead?
Progress to become members of the Institute of Legal Executives and, after a period of qualifying employment (5 years in total, 2 of which will be after completion of studies), may become a fellow of the Institute and a qualified lawyer.
Entry Requirements
To commence the ILEX Level 6 Diploma, students should have completed the Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law, or have equivalent qualifications.
