Natwest Help UCY Festival Plan Wins Award

This year's Natwest Business Plan Challenge was won by a group of UCY students, studying Foundation degree in Business and Management. The students, Georgina Metcalfe, Hayley Owen and Will Pearse, won the competition and £100 prize, for their business proposal for Easydays Ltd, providing 'festival' packs equipment.
Chris Merrick, NatWest's Business Development Manager for Somerset and Dorset, and Jon Stocker from local accountants Milsted Langdon have been working with the students, helping them to identify business opportunities and developing their business plans.
Chris and Jon have visited the UCY regularly to offer advice on aspects including planning, competition, product choice, the market place, cash flow projections and targeting customers. Having worked closely together in the business community, this year's competition builds on the advice both Chris and Jon have been giving students at the UCY in recent years
Chris Merrick from NatWest said, ''I'm delighted to extend the support we offer to the business and management students at the UCY. This competition has given the students a valuable insight into the practicalities of researching a business proposition and preparing a business plan. We've been really impressed with all the plans and our congratulations go to all the students for an excellent overall effort.''
Jon Stocker from Milstead Langdon, continued ''The winning plan showed originality of thought and the overall standard of presentation was very good this year. It is encouraging to see the future generation of business people have enthusiasm and drive.''
Tom Jordan, Department Manager for Business at the UCY, added ''We are delighted to be working with two successful organisations once again. At Yeovil College and the University Centre Yeovil (UCY) we actively encourage the generation of live projects to support the learning process and such partnerships provide valuable knowledge and experience to our students. The foundation degree in Business and Management is an area of huge growth with superb progression opportunities from our Business Academy There are now also expansion plans at the UCY to meet the growing demand from students in the Business area plus the increasing popularity of University level courses in Somerset, and especially in Yeovil.''
