Post Graduate Certificate/Certificate in Education (Learning and Skills)
This course is nationally recognised and focuses upon your individual needs as a teacher and practitioner with clear practice orientation. Students learn the fundamentals of teaching in their working environment, and the theory and practice of teaching are not separated.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for lecturers, trainers and instructors employed in lifelong learning education and training services who have studied to degree level in their chosen subject.
What will I study?
You will acquire the practical teaching skills required to work in the post-compulsory
(14+) and Further Education (FE) sector. You will gain an understanding of the broad context of adult and FE. Furthermore, you will be encouraged to develop a range of analytical and evaluative skills, which are an integral part of what it means to be a teacher.

How will I be taught?
Lectures and seminars are for three hours per week. You should have arranged teaching practice before enrolling on the course – 50 hours for Year 1 and 100 hours for Year 2. Your teaching will be observed by your tutor as part of your course. You must have a qualified teacher in your workplace to act as a subject specialist mentor and this also needs to be arranged before the course commences
How will I be assessed?
Assessments take the form of portfolios of evidence, observations of teaching, reflective journals and logs, assignments including group and individual presentations as well as formal essays.
Where could this course lead?
Successful candidates on this course will be awarded a Level 7 qualification (PGCert) or Level 6 qualification (CertED) and will be entitled to apply for registration as a Full Teacher in the Learning and Skills Sector (QTLS).
Entry Requirements
You will need a level 3 qualification in the subject you wish to teach to apply for the Certificate of Education (CertEd) at Level 6 or a first degree in your teaching subject for the Post Graduate Certificate at Level 7.
