CIM - Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing

The focus of this course is on the strategic aspects of marketing management and the qualification is increasingly seen as a benchmark of your competence at the highest level.  Successful completion leads to full membership of the CIM and ultimately can lead to Chartered Marketer status.

Who is this course for?
This qualification is for those who have already gained a significant level of knowledge and/or experience of marketing.  The focus is on the strategic aspects of marketing management and is ideal for Marketers working at a strategic level or aspiring to do so.

What will I study?
You will study four modules to achieve the Postgraduate Diploma.  You need to complete a fifth unit to achieve Chartered status.  Students must enrol for each module separately.

Core Modules

Unit 1 – Emerging Trends
This teaches students to critically evaluate key emerging macro-environmental themes and assess their significance for a specific sector/industry and propose strategic marketing responses to key emerging themes.  You should reflect contemporary marketing practice and demonstrate creativity in your responses.

Unit 2 – Analysis and Decision
In this module, you will undertake a strategic marketing audit to assess an organisation’s competencies and more, to assess the impact of these factors on the organisation’s strategic intent and direction, to use the strategic marketing audit to critically evaluate a range of available options, to use a range of financial and other measurement tools to assess the benefits of recommended strategic market decisions and to utilise a range of risk assessment tools to judge the risk of strategic marketing decisions and their impact on an organisation.

Unit 3 – Market Leadership and Planning
Having completed this unit, you should be able to critically evaluate methods of delivering an organisation’s corporate mission and vision, develop marketing strategies to establish competitive and sustainable marketing and relationship strategies, utilise a synergistic planning process, develop strategic plans, determine appropriate organisational structures for market-oriented and/or changing organisations and develop sustainable competitive advantage through suitable approaches to leadership and innovation.

Unit 4 – Managing Corporate Reputation
In this unit, you will learn to critically evaluate how organisations develop their identities and use them to form images and assign reputational status, analyse the elements that contribute to the identity that an organisation projects to stakeholders and evaluate linkage between how an organisation wants to be and is seen (corporate communications).

How will I be taught?
You will be taught through a blended-learning approach, including our virtual learning environment (Moodle), a mix of lectures, seminars, weekend workshops and student-led discussion.  Tutorial support is available throughout the academic year.

Modules will be taught one at a time.  Each module will require attendance at three Saturday workshops.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through a blend of assignments and examinations.

Where could this course lead?
Successful completion of this course leads to full membership of the CIM and can ultimately lead to Chartered Marketer status.
