Professional Diploma in Early Years

The Higher Professional Diploma (HPD) in Early Years is a new qualification, equivalent to the first year of a Foundation degree, which facilitates career mobility by focussing on the development of the knowledge and skills needed to progress to higher level positions within the early years sector.

Who is this course for?
This course is for those who aspire to higher level management roles in childcare and education profession.

What will I study?
The qualification offers a challenging new programme which offers both high-level academic focus and vocational knowledge and skills.  In order to achieve the full Diploma, you must complete twelve units, including the following compulsory modules:

Reflective Practice in the Early Years Sector
Values and Principles in the Early Years Sector
Managing the Early Years Curriculum
Safeguarding the Heath and Safety of Children
Managing and Leading an Integrated Setting in the Early Years Sector

You choose your additional six units from 19 currently available.  Please contact the UCY for full details or check the website, www.ucy.ac.uk.

How will I be taught?
You will attend evening classes once a week.

How will I be assessed?
Your assessment will be based on 12 written assignments, allowing you to continue working while you study rather than take time off for formal exams.

Where will the course lead?
This course prepares students for roles in the Early Years sector, such as childminder, play therapist, Sure Start worker and Teaching/Learning Support Assistants.  Completing this course may also facilitate a fast-track onto the second year of a related Foundation Degree, such as the FdA Early Years offered by UCY.
