UCY Students Are The Right Package For Industry
The
University Centre Yeovil (UCY) is celebrating the success of it's CAD
(Graphics and Packaging) students for the third year running in the
industry acclaimed 'Starpack Awards', organised by The Institute of
Packaging (IoP). Five UCY Foundation degree CAD students were rewarded
by industry at this glittering event which is sponsored by industry
giants such as Marks and Spencer's, Britvic and Nestlé.
John
Jarvis, from Poole, received the Silver award sponsored by Marks &
Spencer for his Easter Egg Carton Pack design. Gareth Rabbits, from
Ilfracombe, received a commendation and a special Design Cognition
Award from industry for the technical feasibility and commercial
awareness of his Britvic Soft Drinks design. Other UCY students
commended for their designs were Joanne Hunt from Corfe Mullen, Andrew
Cowling from Axminster and Gareth Lomas from Henstridge who received
the 2nd prize from DS Packaging worth £300. The IoP voted John Jarvis
and Gareth Rabbitts the best student design team of the week after they
spent a day on the IoP stand at the NEC working on live design briefs;
one design has proved successful enough to go into production.
Melinda
Watson, Course Manager for the Foundation degree CAD Graphics &
Packaging, at the UCY, said " I'm especially pleased with the students'
accolades this year as they've been singled out for the practicality of
their designs and their ability to meet industry's needs"
Building
on the success of the Foundation degree CAD (Graphics & Packaging),
the UCY has developed a new course to further satisfy industry needs
for innovative sustainable packaging design; the BSc (Hons) degree in
Sustainable Graphics & Packaging is a one year top-up course
designed for professionals and students who have completed an HND or
Foundation degree and have experience of working in the industry.
